Commemorative Aloha Shirts by Reyn Spooner
The Hawaii Congressional Gold Medal Committee worked with Reyn Spooner on the design of this symbolic and limited-edition commemorative shirt to give meaning for the sacrifices by the World War II Veterans.
All the different panels represent how the WWII veterans fought on land, sea, and air.
The panel with the Arizona Memorial and battleship USS Missouri depicts the start and end of WWII for America.
The panel with King Kamehameha pays tribute to the Hawaiian Chinese heritage for many WWII veterans from Hawaii.
The panel with Punchbowl cemetery shows the true cost of war.
In the "Flying Tiger" airplane panel is a small marking for "CGM WWII Veterans 2020" to honor all the veterans that received/will receive the Congressional Gold Medal.
The 48 star American Flag and Hawaiian Flag are from the WWII era.
Reyn Spooner wanted to have this commemorative aloha shirt depict a special design for the Chinese American WWII Veterans so the flower that separates all the panels is the Chinese Peony.
